Executive Editor needed

About The Lakeville Journal and The Millerton News

LJMN Media, Inc. is a nonprofit, community-supported news organization that publishes The Lakeville Journal (est. 1897) and The Millerton News (est. 1932), serving northwest Connecticut and eastern Dutchess County, New York.

With a long history of award-winning community journalism through our print products, we are also investing in the future — expanding digital platforms, launching and growing youth journalism programs, and cementing our role as the vital source of news and information for the communities we serve.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Editor to lead our editorial team into its next phase of growth. The Executive Editor will oversee and guide all editorial operations, ensuring that our news, arts, and lifestyle coverage upholds the highest journalistic standards and meaningfully serves our communities.

The ideal candidate has excellent editorial judgment and knows how to turn editorial vision into action. The candidate will also be open to new editorial approaches to engage existing readers and attract new ones — continuing the transformation of a historically print-focused newsroom into a more digital, platform-agnostic future.

This person demonstrates day-to-day newsroom leadership, maintaining high expectations, managing and coaching people, guiding story development, editing, and even writing for impact. The candidate will also foster a welcoming and inclusive work environment and collaborate across the organization to support objectives in community engagement, readership growth, advertising, and philanthropy. This person will also represent the newsroom externally — engaging with readers, community stakeholders, and, when appropriate, donors to build trust, reinforce transparency and protect editorial independence.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range begins at $80,000 and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

LJMN Media offers a flexible, mission-driven work environment and a competitive benefits package including paid vacation and sick leave; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401K plan; and a hybrid work environment (must be based in the Tri-State region of Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts or willing to relocate).

How to Apply

To apply, please send a cover letter detailing your interest and relevant experience, a current resume, and 3-5 work samples to CEO/Publisher James Clark; jamesc@lakevillejournal.com.

Equal Opportunity

LJMN Media is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other legally protected status.
