A-Mark Contest • Investigative Journalism

A different kind of contest

Investigative reporting holds power to account and protects the public interest. The NYPA is working with the A-Mark Foundation to back that impact with meaningful, statewide recognition (and real prize money) for the journalists and newsrooms who bring truth to light in their communities.

Prize pool

1st place

$5,000 (journalist) + $2,500 (outlet)

2nd place

$3,000 (journalist) + $1,500 (outlet)

3rd place

$2,000 (journalist) + $1,000 (outlet)

Note: Team entries may split the journalist award.

What it is

The A-Mark Contest recognizes outstanding investigative reporting by NYPA members. This year's contest is being held separately from the NYPA Better Newspaper Contest to bring more attention to this important award.

How it works

NYPA Members are eligible to submit content for consideration at no cost. Members who submitted an investigative journalism article for the Better Newspaper Contest are automatically entered into this contest for consideration.

Ideal entries

  • A single investigation or a focused series
  • Work that exposes a wrong or clarifies a systemic problem
  • Reporting with clear public impact
