News connects our communities. The IgNYte Kindness initiative aims to gather the moments that often get buried: the rides offered, meals shared, hands extended.
Share a story from your town, and we’ll route it to a participating local newsroom for possible coverage. Stories will appear in print and online each month in 2026.
Small acts add up. Let’s make them visible and invite more New Yorkers to do the same!
How it works
1) Tell us
Fill out the form below by sharing a story of kindness you want to highlight.
2) We route it
NYPA shares these tips with a participating newsroom in your region.
3) Stories publish
Selected ideas may become articles online and in print.
Nominate a person or moment
Please share enough detail so a reporter can follow up. Include names of people and organizations, locations, dates and times if possible. This information will assist your regional publication when choosing stories to cover.
Note: Submissions are shared with participating newsrooms in your region. A journalist may contact you to verify details. Submitting does not guarantee publication.
What should I submit?
- A short description (what happened, who was involved).
- Where in New York (city/town + county).
- When it happened (date or approximate).
- Why it mattered to your community.
- Any photo or link (optional).
Examples
- Teens organizing a coat drive for a shelter.
- A bus driver going above and beyond for riders.
- Neighbors helping a family after a fire.
