New York Press Association Better Newspaper Contest
New York Press Association members compete against their peers in the annual Better Newspaper Contest on a statewide basis. The contest groups papers of similar size and compares them against one another in categories such as news, photography, and advertising. There are typically around 4,000 entries each year. The awards are very prestigious, and many entrants use the Better Newspaper Contest to promote their newspaper to the public.
The Better Newspaper Contest is judged by members of another state press association in January. In April, the awards are presented at the annual spring convention and trade show. You must be a member of the New York Press Association to participate in the contest. Membership applications have to be submitted by September 1 to be eligible.
